Aquarium Screensaver Brings Your Screen to Life

There is a practicality to screen savers. Especially in the office and other work environments there is the benefit of having the information on your screen automatically hidden, particularly when you are not there and using your computer for extended periods. In many cases it also helps to reduce the probability of what is called burn-in on your screen. That is not really a problem with most of the recent screens, but some older ones did experience problems. With their popularity screensavers have become among the most diverse programs available. It is actually quite easy to now find a screensaver with nearly any theme or effect that you might want.

An aquarium screensaver is only one of the many screensaver themes that are available. If you enjoy your real aquarium or simply like the appearance of aquariums there is probably an aquarium screensaver that you will find appealing. There are a number of these screensavers that offer varying detail and animation in both the background and the fish, as well as the nature of the various motions that occur within the scene. If you like the idea of an underwater aquarium, you will probably enjoy the appearance of an aquarium screensaver on your screen.

The aquarium screensaver will protect the information that you were working on when the screensaver begins by replacing that information with the scene that is displayed. The only thing that individuals walking by will see is the scene that is presented by your aquarium screensaver. In addition to bright and vibrant colors of the fish that are displayed in your aquarium screensaver many of these screensavers have optional sound settings. This allows your computer to temporarily transform into an immersive aquarium experience. With the sounds of bubbles and other aquarium sounds and the motion of the fish you may find you intentionally let your aquarium screensaver turn on even when you are at your desk.

Most screensavers today are available in both Windows and Mac versions. This means you can probably find an aquarium screensaver that will work on any computer that you use regardless of the operating system. In a number of cases the screensavers are free to download or included in a screensaver package in which you receive a number of screensavers for the same price. Whether you are at home or at work you may find that your screensaver is one of the best parts of your day and that you enjoy sharing it with others.

Feng Shui at the Office – Success at Your Desk

8 Easy Steps for arranging your desk

    1. Clear away clutter: If it’s paper, file it, scan it, or trash it. If it’s something that needs to be taken care of, do it now. Edit your essential desk-top items- do you really need 15 pens in your pen holder? Your desk is valuable real estate, and should be as clear and clean as possible.

    2. Sit so you can clearly see the door. No one likes to be surprised when they are concentrating on their work. If you have a clear view of the door, you can see what’s coming, literally and figuratively.

    3. If you have a blank white wall behind your computer screen, it can cause eye strain and fatigue. If the wall is large enough, add artwork. Preferably something beautiful, inspiring, or action oriented (a sail boat race, a waterfall, running horses…just make sure it’s an image that has a positive meaning to you. Do NOT display artwork of sinking ships, a battlefield, or dead or decaying items, all which elicit negative feelings)

    4. Add a healthy living plant to the left corner of your desk. This is symbolically the wealth area of your desk, and you should nurture and care for a healthy growing plant in this area (You are symbolically nurturing and caring for your thriving career when you care for this plant, so be mindful of it). My favorite plants for this area are lucky bamboo (easy to keep alive), a jade plant (one of the favorites in the Asian culture because it’s leaves are the shape of coins), or a plant that is in bloom (orchids are beautiful and are in bloom for quite a long time). DO NOT LET THIS PLANT DIE AT YOUR DESK…as soon as it starts to deteriorate, get a new healthy plant to replace it.

    5. Add two personal photos to the right side of your desk, in nice frames. This is the relationship/love area of your desk, so chose your photos carefully. I suggest a happy photo of you with your loved one(s), and a second photo of either your children, your pet, or something that you love. If you love to travel, you can use a photo of a favorite destination, or somewhere you long to visit.

    6. Add a table-top fountain in the north part of your office. Keep it small and classy. And yes, it should be as close to the northern compass point in your office as possible. (If you have an I-phone, you can download a free compass application that can easily tell you where north is.) A fountain in the north keeps the vital “chi” energy flowing in your office space. Make sure you keep this fountain turned on 24/7, even on the weekends, and when you are out of the office. If you turn the fountain on and off, you are turning on and off the energy of prosperity…which will start & stop your forward career movement. I love to add a few drops of peppermint essential oil to my fountain, which creates a subtle but fresh fragrance throughout the day, and has the added benefit of helping to keep you alert.

    7. Add a candy or treat dish to your desk, and keep it filled with a popular treat that doesn’t melt. Encourage quick visits from your office co-workers. A smile and a happy greeting from your co-workers will lift your spirits, keep you engaged, and bring a constant flow of energy to your work-space.

    8. Keep positive affirmations close at hand. You can accomplish this in several ways; Famous quotes that inspire you posted on the wall/ the computer/or wherever you can see them; Books that inspire, or instruct you in career advancement; a screen-saver for your computer that has positive or motivational messages. Or add something personal to your desk or office that symbolizes success to you.

Of course there are many Feng Shui techniques that will apply to your specific office layout, but these are a few common tips that anyone can incorporate to make a positive change today!

Laptop Accessories – Which Ones Are Necessary?

So you have your shiny new laptop ready and waiting for you. It’s still in the box, but you’re certain that your purchase is complete, right? Wrong! If you think the sticker price on the computer is the only cost associated with a new laptop you’d be right on track to go over budget on your purchase. That’s because a new laptop without any laptop accessories is no more useful than your desktop is, it’s merely smaller and more expensive.

Some laptop accessories are merely frivolous customization options, while others are a necessity for anyone who actually plans on leaving their desk with the computer. Which you buy depends on your budget and your tastes. This article aims to display some items that fall into both categories.

First, we will cover some of the more essential laptop accessories. Topping that list is a laptop bag. Why a bag? Well to explain this, just take a look at oh… twenty different laptop models. Did a single one have a handle? How about a pouch for carrying the power cord? Laptops are meant to be as portable as possible, but that doesn’t make them a good candidate for lugging around under your arm. In fact, it lends them to being carried around inside something else, namely a bag or case. In addition to the function implied by the name, a laptop bag will also serve the same functions as a purse or briefcase does, allowing you to minimize what you need to take with you. Hands down, a carrying case is the most common add on to purchase.

Another common laptop accessory is a mouse. Sure the laptop has a touchpad, and the touchpad has come a long way since the old days. But the fact is that if you have anything that’s control intensive you’ll want a mouse to do it with. You’ll also be wishing for a mouse if you need to do something for an hour or more on your laptop.

One of the most aggravating things about laptops today is the battery life issue. Certain models will claim to have up to 5 hours of battery life… what they don’t tell you is that the models will only last for five hours if you leave them idling on the screen saver. So realistically, you’ve got an hour or two of battery life, regardless of what model you choose. So how should you deal with your limited battery life? Purchase an extra battery. As long as your model disconnects the battery from the computer itself, an extra battery will allow you to double your computer’s usage between charges.

Those things are all functional laptop accessories, but what if you want your laptop to have that extra style it seems to be lacking? Never fear there are plenty of means available for you to make your laptop stand out from the crowd. One of the cheapest ways is decals. Yes, you can buy stickers that will instantly make your laptop recognizable in a lineup. Or there are covers for those that want to go all out. They’re like a full-laptop version of the sticker, or similar to those book covers you used in high school.

Regardless of whether you want to upgrade your laptop’s functionality or its looks, there are accessories out there for you to do so. Check out your local store or the internet for more information on specific products.

Can This Screensaver Actually Help You Fall Asleep Faster?

SO MUCH to do, so little time. Between a hectic work schedule and a thriving social life, Kevin (not his real name), a 30- year-old marketing director from Seattle, often doesn’t have time to waste trying to fall asleep. So he turns on the computer in his bedroom and soon a serene mountain lake takes shape on his monitor. The lake is nestled within the mountains and a breathtaking scene of evergreen trees and wild flowers scattered throughout. Nature sounds including soft, subtle birds, cascading waterfalls, and the lapping of the lake against the shoreline come from the speakers and enhance the relaxation process.

“If I play this just before I go to bed, I can fall asleep faster and wake up feeling refreshed,” he says. “The alarm goes off and I’m like, let’s go!”

Kevin (believe it or not) is talking about his screensaver, a 3D Animated Forest Waterfall that since its launch several years ago has acquired a near-mythical reputation for aiding those suffering from sleep deprivation to actually fall asleep faster and deeper. Kevin has been popping on his forest screensaver for the past three years and says it is “tremendously useful”. “I find I can be very productive each morning at work,” he says. “I’m more organised and more motivated after a good night’s sleep. And it means I don’t have to worry about wasting time waiting to fall asleep.”

Several years ago Kevin was like over 100 million other Americans who have trouble falling asleep, 40% of whom experience some form of insomnia after the age of 16. Insomnia lies within many bedrooms all over the world and has been associated with accelerated aging, depression and cancer. Although we spend almost one third of our lives in bed, it is not really known what stimulates sleep. The scientific studies on sleep are still in their infancy.

However it has been proven that people who sleep between 4-6 hours per day can make up to 14 times more errors than those who sleep the recommended 8 hours. Studies by scientists in sleep labs have shed some light on what takes place within the body while we sleep.
During the deepest phases, a growth hormone is released which helps repair cells and restore their energy.

According to one study by the University of Chicago, men who slept only four hours per night for six nights showed a 30% decrease in ability to secrete and respond to insulin ( a hormone that helps to regulate blood sugar). This kind of decrease can lead to diabetes. More recent discoveries by the same university have also shown a relationship between lack of sleep and obesity. Following another four-hour sleep pattern, a 20% decrease in leptin (a horomone which regulates body weight) was observed for two days by participants. They also observed the participants stomachs produced a 20% increase in ghrelin (a hunger stimulating hormone).

While many Americans choose to take a pill to help them sleep, there are more natural and effective ways to treat cases of insomnia. The soothing sounds of nature greatly assist the body to relax.

Kevin has made it a habit to fall asleep to the sound of his 3D animated forest screensaver. He was able to download it free from ScreensaversAndWallpapersFree.com. With his laptop computer bedside, he chooses between several customizable waterfall scenes and soothing nature sounds to mix things up. “I don’t know what it is about this screensaver, the imagery, the unique nature sounds. What I do know is it simply helps me get to sleep.”

Digital Photography Through an Amateurs Lens

If you haven’t taken your first digital photograph, or even heard of digital photography, then I really must congratulate you. You are truly a contradiction. Since your reading this article, you must be browsing the web, yet you still haven’t heard of digital cameras. Apart from the computer itself, and perhaps the cell phone, photography has been more revitalized than practically any other industry in the digital universe. During it’s early introduction, it was reviled by professional photographers, as being a sub par and mediocre technology. In other words, the picture quality was pathetic. However, Like any high tech toy these days, it has matured at an alarming rate, and the cries of mediocrity have been gagged and silenced. Everyone, even a multitude of pros engage in the sinful passion that is digital photography.

    Digital Delights vs Digital Dystopia

Not to say that aren’t a cornucopia of complications to overcome in this new digital wonderland. And hardly the least of these is the managing of the overflow of new pictures you now own copyrights to. It seems that being cheap little buggers, is a genetic trait of most human beings. Way back in the old days, when taking pictures actually meant buying real film with real cash, we were very judicious in what pictures we took. Now that digital photography allows us to endlessly reuse those overworked little bits on our memory sticks, we click, snap and shoot every cute, furry, adorable thing that comes into range. Once are hard drives are crammed with a gazillion of these images ranging from dubious to heirloom quality we really start to worry. What happens if our hard drive makes that klunk-grind-klunk-kratch sound that next time we boot up our pc? Or . . . however will we find that one really priceless picture we’re looking for, in that wasteland of hopefully-forgotten digital visions? Gotta have backups folks. And really you must get more organized. It’s that simple. And hey, while your at it, dump that crappy and boring old screen saver of flying toasters, and crappy windows logos, for your own maniacal barge sized load of digital pictures on your hard drive. Why not at least view your images on your own pc periodically before your hard drive commits digital Hari-Kari.

    Revenge is the Ultimate Panacea

Of course there are many more creatively satisfying tactics for dealing with all this digital photography abundance. All those free picture sharing sites that allow us to inflict our photographic genius on other unsuspecting travelers of the net. You upload your pictures in varying sizes, and mediums of presentation. Yes, the already tortured world really needs to see a slideshow of my 4 year olds magnificently produced, directed and choreographed version of the Teddy Bear Picnic. As harmless as this strategy may seem, it’s effectiveness is not ruthlessly devoid of passion. Of course why just settle for a inner feeling of joy, when you can turn all those pictures into hard cash. Start a picture blog, and surround your beautiful works of sublime art with greed driven capitalistic advertisements. Nothing like that oh so moving picture of junior playing with his very first barf, and a caption of “Ads by Gaaaaaaagle” eloquently underneath. I’m sure once you put a little thought into it, you can come up with your own wonderful form of digital dysentery. Best of luck, I’ll be watching for you.
